(Fox5 news piece on clean up area. You can watch the video HERE.)
It would appear that the Chico Mart, located at the corner of Rupert Rd and Memorial Dr., has been closed down. However, the dumping that has been going on for quite some time seems to be continuing.
The President and Vice President of The Belvedere Civic Club had the opportunity to be interviewed for a FOX5 news piece which caught the attention of our Super District 6 Commissioner Loraine Cochran-Johnson. She was able to get the dumpster removed but the large trash build up remains.
So, this coming Saturday, February 19th, members of the Belvedere Park community will gather together at 9 a.m. for a clean up event. We are working with local officials to help ensure this location remains clean, but it is our hope that removing the garbage pile will discourage people from dumping there in the future.
Please come out and join us this Saturday to clean up this blighted property right at the entrance to our neighborhood. We have arranged for a construction dumpster to be dropped off and picked back up. We also have contractor bags we are distributing to volunteers.
If you're coming by to help out, we suggest you bring any and all of the following if you have them:
Leather work gloves
Face mask
Close toed shoes
Eye protection wear
Long sleeved shirts
Rakes, shovels, brooms
We will be providing donuts, coffee and water on site.
We're all looking forward to seeing you this Saturday for this important community cleanup.
